padzilla says: I thought it was all those Jason movies. Actually I've read about the real reason somewhere. Its to do with the date when the Templars of the church went around and massacred many people (I think those who opposed the church I guess). And that bloody day was on Friday the 13th. I'm pretty sure this is where it originated from. Can't seem to remember where I read it though. When my 3-year old counts to 20, she consistently leaves out the number 13. Maybe she knows something I don't. It wasn't the Templars who did a massacre; they were wiped out themselves. King Philip IV had Templars simultaneously arrested, accused of heresy on October 13, 1307. They were eventually tortured/executed The last known Grand Master of the spiritual Order of the Knights Templar, Jacques de Molay, was burned to death on a slow fire on the stake outside the Notre Dame Church in Paris together with his successor, on Friday the 13th of March , the year 1314. Maybe Jason is one of the surviving Templars. They say the Templars were the founders of Masonic Temples. Therefore, is Jason a Mason...? The Templars do indeed have a direct connection to Freemasonry. You may be on to something. I'll have to ask my Masonic husband if any of their initiations involve weird hockey masks. Hey thanks wiccantexan for correcting me. And this conversation has now turned hilarious. Jason the Mason rofl. PS. Yep, the Templars are said to have been the founders of the masons. Haven't you guys read the totally accurate historic document called The Da Vinci Code?!?! Oh my Gosh! PPS. Why did I capitalize "gosh" in my last reply? Hmmmm...Ok, why am I bothering to correct myself now? Why can't I stop typing right now? Oh, maybe cause its 40 degrees celcius right now where I live. That should explain it. Ok I'll shutup now. I've had some birthdays on friday the 13th.... fudzzz, though I know you mentioned the Da Vinci Code in fun, there are historical indications that the Templars did indeed carry Freemasonry onwards. They didn't invent it, but they helped preserve it. It was not the Templars, but Philip the Fair of France and Pope Clement who conspired to arrest the Kights Templar on Friday the Thirteenth. DeMolay the last Grand master of the Templars was eventually burned at the stake. That is the true background of Friday the Thirteenth. Right, nickers2. That history was noted in earlier comments. Hey! I was born in a stormy night in such a friday... But you guys are right,if JASON THE MASON ever gets the silver screen I will see it for sure ! |
