ouyangwulong says: From John Maynard Kynes. Seems sound to me. He did not say he changed his mind to align with the facts. That seems to be the main problem. Facts are fleeting things, especially in the age of ignorance where we have blogs, conservapedia, and wikipedia. Who needs facts? We just want the "facts" that agree with us, because no matter what we want to believe, the "facts" are out there somewhere. Welcome back ouyangwulong! Willie, first you say that not aligning personal opinion to the facts is the problem. Then you say, in essence, that not only are facts fleeting, but as well that sources for facts are not to be trusted, illustrated by your favorite untrustworthy sources as being somehow conclusive proof of your point. You are contradicting yourself. Which is it? You can't have it both ways. Quick now, point to the bible and tell me that it's factual and that I should trust it as such. Tell me the facts willie. We all know you are the only one who knows them. BB..the man will not even acknowledge the authority of a dictionary. Cause....long lost.... Actually, Willhelm raises a good point. Though it may seem like semantic nitpicking, what Kynes is actually saying may in fact be: I was right then, and I am right now. He's not saying I change my mind when I learn new facts. He's not saying I change my mind when I learn the facts. He's saying 'I knew it all then, and I know it all now.' So it is kind of an arrogant statement, now that I think about it more. It would be far better to say "I change my mind when I learn new things." It would be even better still if these days you could find someone who could say "I was wrong, but I'm not going to make that mistake anymore..." publicly. Let me know if you find anyone who does... ps. and than... Man, Ouyang, Thank God for a clear-thinking, leftward leaning clipper. It is a breath of fresh air. "I was wrong, but I'm not going to make that mistake anymore..." publicly. Let me know if you find anyone who does...Hate to nitpick...but that sound awfully familiar... John Edwards, Sunday, November 13, 2005; Page B07 I was wrong.
Well done BobbtRutan, wish more candidates had that kind of guts. I've got to say, I was an Edwards delegate in 2004, and I continue to believe that he is a pretty good guy. The problem is that he might simply be too wholesome and reasonable to run successfully. Popped for comments. |
