Peru is heavily dependent upon exports of natural resources and has a lot of iron ore which, about 15 years ago China rushed in and after buying a huge interest, has increased output greatly.

Mining is of course a dangerous occupation anywhere, and I would think that with the influx of money and interest from China that safety concerns and practices would be of higher priority. But given China’s dismal record of human rights it is easy to see they don’t care too much about safety.

I love the little dig at the end of this clip:
