Background: For years, Margaret Atwood has been claiming that she doesn't write science fiction. Yes, yes, she writes stories set in the future, sometimes with aliens, that look at the question "what if [x] were different - how would that affect things?" which is kind of the central question of science fiction (aka "the literature of 'what-if'")... but it's not science fiction!
