The driver needs to be updated.  push F2 for the system bios, not F8 or F11. Then do the regular stuff like making sure the system recognizes the HDD and the RAM, it's booting from the HDD first, etc. and then see what chip set you have. And be sure to check that the HDD and RAM sticks aren't loose or anything. If this doesn't apply, and you are desperate, on vista you can still run the windows xp recovery console. You will have to email or I.M. me  cuz i won't publicly tell where to download it. this keeps people from trying this first for a simple problem and messing it up.    and if you want a new O.S. disc don't go to the store you bought it from.
