The self-sacrificial non-violent power of Christ was the power to change hearts and minds, something that government (ESPECIALLY democratic government under the first amendment) pretty much lacks.</p> <P>To be fair, I encounter the same problem in the UU discussion group I attend, where I finally had to point out that all the governmental and political solutions they were fighting for were inherently violent;  why is government our first recourse for solving these problems, rather than our last recourse?
