corps these days. Bush gets so many passes from the press that I
have to stifle a hearty guffaw every time I hear the phrase "liberal
media".

Examples: Back in '93, the press was outraged that Clinton fundraising
brought in $37 million in the first 18 months of his term. In
that same period of his first term, Bush collected over $100 million - "Twice, Bush has shattered the single event record set by Clinton at
$26.5 million in 2000. Bush raised $33 million at an event in May and
$30 million in June."

The press drubbed the Clintons endlessly about the Whitewater incident
(in which they lost $30,000), but overlooked the $850,000 profit
Bush made from the sale of Harken Oil stock at a time when the SEC
suspended all trading in that company's shares, and Cheney's $18.5
million profit from sale of Halliburton stock in August 2000 (while, of
course, he was vice-president).

In 2001, when the PRC was holding 21 crew members of a downed spy
plane, the questions Bush was asking were things like, "Does the crew
have bibles?" or "Are they getting any exercise?" and, again, "Can we
get them some bibles?" The only place you could find this
approach criticized, rather than applauded, in the press was in UK's
Guardian.
