History as taught is a fabrication to indoctrinate into an artificial unity. Lincoln was no more a Christian than was Thomas Paine, the Deist who wrote against the Bible. The real motive behind Lincoln's hypocritical declaration of Thanksgiving (advised by Seward, who was Lincoln's Karl Rove) was, per the above, because "it pleases the [religious] fools"--i.e. it was religious propaganda in order to cover up the unlawful, anti-constitutional invasion of the Southern States, the burning of their cities, the rape and pillage of Sherman's army by calling for Thanksgiving. (The parallels between invasion of Iraq and invasion of the South are striking).

Lincoln was distrusted by not only the South but many in the North. Christians saw him as a Deist not a Christian as his own words demonstrate.

Lincoln, like most of the Presidents, was not a Christian and used religion like a hypocrite for political purposes, not unlike GWB.
