BigBadWolf says: Ok, I am all for making children safe but this crap is WAY outta hand! Come on now people let's get real! Good Grief! Ruin a persons life if right! Complete BS. That is horrendous! Fine, call the cops. Arrest them. Then the father can sue the living crap outta them for wrongful arrest, etc and maybe they'll figure out their little ad campaign was too retarded to be useful. Idiots. Please use this becky.odor@vdh.virginia.gov/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">LINK to write an email telling them how ridiculous this campaign is! If you go to their site, another "child abuse" image they use is of a mother hugging her child! I can no longer take photos at my son's school sports day, help a lost child and now hold his hand in public... makes me want to weep. wtf?! Because, surely, holding your daughter's hand is a reason to be suspected of being a child abuser. Someone needs to be slapped upside their heads! Get A Grip! Who is the league behind the scenes that is trying to destroy the American family???????? There may be those of you who understand the word "league" in a deeper sense. From the Bible. Typical example of what happens when 'bullies' grow up unchecked. Teachers can't hug kids, now fathers? This is outrageous. No wonder the kids are so confused. ^ They can't? Uh-Oh! There has got to be a real pervert in VA, to think those images conjure up child abuse. I would investigate the people who thought those images up for this campaign. There has got to be a real pervert in VA, to think those images conjure up child abuse.Very well put horseshoe! Very well put indeed! I have two daughters and my 13 year old is highly intelligent, VERY secure and a real pistol to hang out with. Yet, we are so close that she still sometimes sits on my lap! Am I supposed to suddenly feel guilty about this? Yaaaa! You Go! I have a ton of little brothers I hold their hands when crossing the street am I going to jail for buying them icecream next? How are kids not supposed to be disorientated when even the most innocent and loveful gestures are turned in such a twisted way? Like someone said, next thing we know we are all gonna face life-detention for buying ice-cream or singing lullabies. How stupid can publicists be? That's just not right. The other day, I was reading about a somewhat humourous exchange that someone had overheard. Two women were walking down the sidewalk with their arms around each other. A street preacher walked up to them and said something to the effect of "Oh, you poor ladies! Don't hold each other like that - don't you know that lesbianism is a sin against God?" to which the younger of the two women replied "Dude, she's my mother!" After seeing this ad, though, the exchange loses some of its humour. It's insane to tell people to assume that if a man and a child are holding hands he's most likely a predator that needs to be stopped. While pedophilia certainly IS a problem today, I don't think I would... This is just sick. I am not an American, but when I see things like that I keep wondering WHY do American people let these publicists do things like this to them. This is just not right. Kids need love and affection, this is a fact, now they want parents not to do this? How are they supposed to give love in such "distance" of their own children? Oh man, I'm in trouble. I think I changed a diaper today. I guess that makes me a molester. we should all stop holding hands & start give real hugs Geez, I hold my kids hands to keep them safe and protect them from the whacko's that could snatch them up. What a FU world this is becoming. this country has gone off the deep end. I agree. This is outrageous! When I was little, I held my dad's hand, and I did it because I felt safe when he was near. After all, he was my dad, not someone who abuses children. Embarassing, and what makes it worse is I live in the area of where this insanity goes on. When I first saw this clip I thought it was ridiculous, but I was curious and went to the StopItNow site. I think they chose a bad picture for their ad campaign but the comments here are not really fair. The point of the campaign is more along these lines. Let's say you have an adult male acquaintance that always seems to have a young child as a very close friend. You get a bad feeling about this but don't know what you can do about it or if there's really anything wrong. The campaign provides an 800 number you can call anonymously to talk to a trained counselor about whether this is something you ought to report. A little creepy, maybe, but not as bad as these comments make it out to be. I ... I can agree with you, enbar, to a certain extent. But my thoughts run in a channel of results. i.e. What kind of thoughts will such posters cause in people? Already we have read many of them. People are approached (possibly with more of this type of propaganda, 'accosted' will become a more appropriate word) and treated as though they are, will or have committed a crime. Americans, and possible other countries, have been bombarded with the publication of many of these types of events. (not that they shouldn't be but the press, indeed does choose what they do and do not report on and to what extent it is reported.) Public knowledge an/or opinion can be swayed by advertisement. Just take a ... It's over-the-top definitely, but I think they mean if you get a feeling that someone is abusing a child that you know (not a child and an adult stranger off the street-the cops wouldn't take you seriously anyway) help that child by looking into it so it could be stopped. A lot of times intuitions and instincts are correct (by sane people anyway) ....and there's no indication that the dude in the photograph is the girls' dad. And it's not just about holding hands; it goes much further than that. I've seen men just 'talking' to little girls and I got a strange feeling that he might be a pervert. They're not going to be too explicit on a public ad. Holding hands just 'represents' the bigger problem. A friend of a neighbor once showed his privates to my 7 yr old little sister. Not once did he touch her, but he did indeed abuse her. |
