Pavel Felgengauer, a leading Russian defence expert, told The Times: “It’s to show the flag and the finger to the United States. They are offering a sort of gangland deal – if you get into our territory, then we will get into yours. You leave Georgia and Ukraine to us and we won’t go into the Caribbean, OK?” He described the visit as “first and foremost a propaganda deployment”, pointing out that one of the support vessels was a tug in case either of the warships broke down. Gangland diplomacy? Its not like they're murdering hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians on the other side of the world to steal their oil like certain other countries. Oh good grief!!! What tripe. Record...they're encircling us. It's hard to believe how things are changing so fast...just in this last year. They sense that the US is weak, has no backbone, is dependent on others for their oil/energy, is garnering alliances with some strong and oil rich countries, and playing *chicken* with Europe. They are expecting a weak man to be elected President. It's a chess game and it's not looking good for us in the long run. Peter the Great is armed with 20 nuclear cruise missiles and is one of the world?s most formidable warships.-Shrek "You suppose they're compensating for something, perhaps?" After reading the comments above, I now understand where the word 'boneheaded' came from... getting back to normal comments above - they aren't really compensating, but they are trying to do 2 things - show that they're still relevant and also send a signal. Quite frankly - Georgia should be addressed by EU, not USA. If the Europeans are too 'liberal' to deal with Russia appropriately - then they deserve to get what they get. I especially liked the comment about one ship being towed, since it wasn't functional on its own. Russia may try to resurrect itself, but clearly with limited amount of arsenal/resources. We just need to get the oil prices down to about $50/barrel and Russia will go back into their corner again. It is not so much Russia that scares me, but that China and Iran could team with Russia and really screw up the rest of the world. They sense that the US is weak. Now, why would that be? Record deficits, unbridled military spending? Rusted more than just tarnished reputation on the world stage? Military manpower spread so thin so as to be incapable of any real defense in the face of a crisis? Economy in the tank for the count? Who's leading this parade? THE DECIDERER! You know, that tin-horn fake-cowboy asshat all you neocon right-wingers were willing to lick boot for. Who's leading this parade? THE DECIDERER! You know, that tin-horn fake-cowboy asshat all you neocon right-wingers were willing to lick boot for. You mean the one who beat the democrats BEST candidates TWICE? How do you explain the worst president in history (by your terms) being able to beat the BEST the dems had to offer TWICE? If you don't like the outcome of an election field a better candidate next time. It's funny how the fuzzy bear there neglects the fact that it's the people who have his ideology that screwed up the economy in the first place by trying some social engineering. Listening to him one would think that Bush actually had anything to do with causing this economic crisis we're in. The moral of the story, Mr. Bear, is ... STAY IN THE FOREST, do NOT attempt to live in the city just because someone decides it's a good to embrace everyone, including bears that shouldn't be anywhere near the city. Do I blame Bush? Absolutely! For letting this thing get to this point, he certainly had an opportunity to make waves, as a minimum on the subject and didn't and that's what I blame h... @rmowery - I don't believe the scenario you're describing is going to happen. China & Russia are too far apart to do anything constructive together, heck if they couldn't while both were building the same non-sense, now they're even further apart. Iran is certainly plausible, but only in terms of Iran buying weapons, nothing more. There's zero commonality in ideology and considering the religion being in the mix - Iranians would never embrace Russian culture etc. For them it's just a convenience situation... kind of like us buying oil from the Saudis or Chavez - it's not because we have or want anything to do with them, just something we need that they provide. To be fair - I have to give Mr. O a few points today for going to Fox News right after the meeting at the White House. Smart move on his part, shows that he isn't completely lost somewhere in the left field... although I'm sure it probably made the Bear there, and his kind, throw up in disgust, for going on the 'no-no' network. @RecordSage - I am sure you saw the news today about the Ukraine ship being taken by the pirates. It had tons of Russian weapons, ammo and such on board. What I thought was interesting is that with all those weapons and ammo - they should have easily been able to destroy the pirates. That is if all that equipment actually worked. So it seems like perhaps Russia is offloading it's junk? No question that's the case, rmowery. I haven't seen the ship deal yet (was a nightmare client programming day today... had to finally quit to at least watch the debate), but you described it well enough. We should be very aware of what's going on there. I like McCain's outlook on them better than Obama's, but I don't think neither is 'great' on the issue. and of course there's this |
