thisnamecantbetaken says: Women are not being helped along by others. The flow of help is going into the other direction. Is there a woman alive, who did not know this already? Hell I admit it, Women rock. Good to see you back thisnamecantbetaken! Great to see you too alanocu! Been busy, busy, busy! I'm hoping to have a bit more time and energy to clip a bit again though. Sigh... a woman's work is never done. *LOL* . consistently show that Grandma is doing much of the work. Now, where's granny? Out putting the kids to bed, after which she will continue to work on her latest book, "Practical Quantum Physics and its role in the downfall of Grug." I agree that there didn't need to be a 'study' to reveal the obvious; at least to those who think about these things. Grandmas, or older women, who are healthy enough to do so, carry the heavy-lifting of the support for the family. They're wise, are people/caregiver oriented, and they Love alot! That lady looks a lot like my hill-billy Grandma as I remember her. Only picture her lifting the back end of a truck out of a creek-bed. Loved that woman! I grew up with my paternal grandmother living with us. She died at 83--more than 30 years ago. Only my oldest son has a vague memory of her. She got to see the first few autos, first plane, first man circling the earth--what changes she saw. I only hope that I'm being as good a grandmother as she was. What an article! Yay Grannies!!!! God created granny's coz they care, they teach and then they die My Granny grew up in an era when women rarely worked out of the house or attend higher education facilities. She only had a sixth grade education, but she was one of the smartest women I ever knew. She couldn't tell you about Norse mythology, but she could tell you after a bit of 'cyphering' exactly how many teaspoons go into 8 gallons, Exactly how many yards of material it would take to make a dress just my size, and how to cook anything without a recipe. From scratch. I can't remember her saying a bad thing about anyone. Ever. I remember her saying, "You catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar." I wish I could remember this more often. Now that she's gone, I wish I'd kept my ears open more and kept my mouth shut more. They were true treasures. Though their lives were hard, how many of us would like to emulate them? I would. I'm sure it's only a secret to someone who doesn't have a grandma. I saw a quote somewhere, that children, and grandmas were natural allies against parents. If parents have got any sense, they usually learned from theirs. Who also know much more than they used to, and they've known more than one generation of Kids. One of the most common phrases- You know how much you are like your Father/Mother at their age. They know most of the tricks, but are smart enough not to let on. They pass away but are rarely lost, and it's never too late to remember some of the things they said, because they knew what they were talking about. To get to that stage, they have learned more about people and time than... Old Age Pension is a left-wing scam! What a great clip. Grandmothers Rule! During the mid 1960's at the University of California at At Santa Barbara, biology Professor Garret Hardin asked about the evolutionary forces that led toward survival beyond reproductive age and he suggested some interesting and productive answers. I'm glad to see that people are still working on the puzzle Hmmm...mid-60s, California, evolutionary forces...kinda' goes together. My Grandma was no evolutionary 'weapon'; she was a precious and wonderful gift, to me, from GOD! :~) |
