AtlLiberal says:
Romney's blatant rejection of the substantial number of non-believers in the country was deeply disturbing. His declaration equating religion and freedom was a slap in the face of the estimated 20-30 million non-believers that are US citizens. I'm gratified that this has attracted some attention in the media.

Of concern is the blasé manner in which Romney put this idea forth. This was a prepared speech and I'm sure much thought went into it. If it was an ad lib moment he might duck under the cover of "misspeak" but in this instance he can't. Time will tell if this simply fades away or if it will come back to haunt him on election day.

Looks like he might get a taste of his own bigotry, if the Christians (ala Hukabee) have anything to do with it.

If we had an atheist candidate running for president, just how would you want him/her to answer the religion question? Just curious since you seem so upset being excluded in Romney's speech. I fail to see the problem here, have any past presidents tried to banish the atheists from the country.

have any past presidents tried to banish the atheists from the country.
From an interview with H. W. Bush in 1987:
Sherman: What will you do to win the votes of the Americans who are Atheists?

Bush: I guess I'm pretty weak in the Atheist community. Faith in god is important to me.

Sherman: Surely you recognize the equal citizenship and patriotism of Americans who are Atheists?

Bush: No, I don't know that Atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God.

Sherman (somewhat taken aback): Do you support as a sound constitutional principle the separation of state and church...

"a symphony of faith"
Well, if that's what he wants, atheists and agnostics would then have to be the spaces between the notes, otherwise it would just be a cacophony of believers.

As any properly trained musician can tell you, the rests in a composition are equally important to any notes in the composition.

@BB

I like that analogy. I agree about musical rests being important in much the same way as negative space is integrated into art. I've never thought about it in regards to "faith". Thanks for that insight.

It should be answered with the Constitution. No religious test for office; they are separate and should remain so, for the benefit of religious freedom, both for and from.
