Notice the adults sitting next to the babies using token gestures of protection or is that just to make sure the babies don't roll out of the way. Whatever the gesture represents, that is a dangerous tradition and should be stopped. They could use a doll wearing something belonging to the baby, it would probably be just as meaningful.

This is better than throwing them down from the rooftop (as was the case in some remote village in India reported by CNN not too long ago).

Agree w/tanyamm. Regardless of whether you throw 'em off the rooftops or jump over, its a no-brainer. Such rituals should be discouraged by the respective governments in these countries. First you pray for a child and then you put them through unnecessary risks, pray why?!
