Sen. Craig tells the Ethics Committee that his arrest has nothing to do with his job as a senator. His Lawyer says Craig's defense is all about his public role.

Of course he should not have access to campaign funds for his defence, what is the implication here? that somehow his actions were linked to his official life?

IMO Craig is just a common sex pest, and further to that he does the real gay people of this world a great disservice by his remarks, "i am not gay and never have been" it tends to give the impression that his lewd behaviour is normal behaviour for Gay people.

He might as well spend it that way. He won't need it for re-election, I hope.

Better he spend it now than use it to feather his retirement nest. Many states allow retiring politicians to keep their campaign warchests after they retire. In some places, it's not even taxable.
