And pay hefty reparations for each year the blacks spent as slaves in this country.

A very serious problem that does seem unsolvable.

I am not convinced that there are enough Blacks that see education as a viable path. Is that because the stereotype of Blacks not liking other Blacks who act too White has been exaggerated?

I spent time watching the Tyra Banks show last year, and she had on her show many Blacks not in show business or sports or music that I would never encounter in my own daily life and frankly didn't know existed yet appeared to be that very pool of talent that is needed.

Yet on a mass level, there is a very major problem and that is of security.

A community can deal with a great deal of threat from outside if the community itself is supportive of itse...

And maybe the forces that separate the communities comes from without.

The US black family has had its self esteem and limbs battered and bashed for how many years now?
They struggle every day, and they do it with a boot on the back of their necks.
And many still want to blame the black for his present predicament, which simply put, is just doling out more of the same bigotry.
It's 2008 and on the whole, not very much has changed in the big picture.Poverty is widespread in this country with countless jobs going overseas.Social services struggle to do their job while the Pentagon fatcat budget soars.Tell me this government cares about its poor and I've got a bridge to sell you.

@katsteevns,
I have much sympathy for what you say.

I don't want to blame the Black.
Still one has to ask, on a pragmatic level what is possible?

I live in the western US and I have had contact with Mexicans for years. I admire them very much.

As a group, not every single one of them of course, they have real values and real culture and it pays off.
They spend more time working and supporting their families even though they have much they can complain of.
They are to me, unsung heroes.

But they are self motivated. That is the key. Being self motivated and being willing to do honest work within a range of possibilities even when life is unfair.

In theory, it's possible that the Black...

Ok,lets not give out cash. Let's just start with a home. Give them a home for starters with no property tax. And then lets make sure they have food on the table and free medical care.
\This would be a good start. Then people will begin to feel grounded, not having to worry about the basics. From this beginning, moral will increase in general and life begins to have possibilities.
If people must worry about where their next meal is coming from or where they will sleep, then there is no room to think about preparing for a job interview, or even to dream of a good life.
Selling drugs or anything illegal that brings a fast buck is what people do who have nothing, including not having the right m...

Maybe you think we cannot afford such a costly endeavor. Well, just look at the money poring into the Iraq war and you will see that we DO have the dough.
On the other hand, who in their right mind would support something like this which brings no foreseeable benefit to those who pay in?

This is the core of the problem..ie: NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE CARE.

Where is Bill Gates with all his money?Where are all the other rich billionaires? Do they care about the well-being of the downtrodden in this country? No, because there is no profit in it.

Yes there is or was enough money. Was enough before but not now, because it does seem we might be in real trouble now.

It was my understanding that part of the Republican plan to roll back the Roosevelt era was to starve the social programs to death by putting all the money elsewhere, defense, war, whatever to accomplish this.

Many people do not care, and many people are resentful.

Being hopeful about the future of this country is what keeps most people thinking in a positive light.
And it is difficult to live and think otherwise.
In fact, it's downright un-American not to be optimistic about most things "American".
I feel that people will continue to be resentful, but there are and will be mechanisms in place so that they will not be able to take any action or make any profound changes that will disturb the course set by those who have their hands on the control knobs.

You can see the result of this in different ways. Such as quashing demonstrations since the 60's. The media consistently portraying activists in a bad light or no light at all. Unions are talked about in condescending ways. Police protect scabs from picketers which is really protecting the company from the workers who gave their sweat, blood and years of service.
Also you see the control in the booming of the prison industry. Surely you have heard of the increasing amount of young people going to jail for minor offences and being mishandled while serving.

I see what you are saying and I honestly don't know of solutions.

I was of age in the 60's and it was a time of amazing hope and belief that things could be changed. That was what I got from the mood of the times.

Yet before you knew it Reagan was President, he promptly killed unions and too soon things were going back the other way.

I have a pet peeve about what happened with unions by the way.
As the son of a union member I was a loyal exponent for unions.
And I saw what destroyed unions, or so I think I did. It was the working man that destroyed unions. For I heard many men brag how they earned enough money by virtue of their own personal efforts, and didn't have to pay no stinkin' un...

If the working man destroyed the unions, then Reagan would have had nothing to do.

Well you have a good point.

Unfortunately it was a combination of the two I think.
I also think it was a lot of the working men of the type I described who voted for Reagan.

But have you ever talked to guys that thought the way I described? I was only speaking from my own personal experience.

NO, I haven't been involved in unions, but I can imagine men thinking in that mindset and undermining their own secure livelihoods. The unions aren't perfect either.
A similar situation has occurred today where we voted in a president who is draining the countries lifeblood.

Because some people want more than their fare share, they will step on others to get it. This breeds mistrust among workers.
It all stems from people looking out for Number One instead of looking to the needs of those around them as well, right?

There is the matter of people wanting more than their fair share.
There is also people with a sense of resentment. Such as a man I saw on a video recently saying that he did not want any of his money NO MATTER HOW SMALL AMOUNT IT MIGHT BE going to people who as he saw it didn't deserve anything!

There is also plain ignorance as to what the best way to lok out for number 1 is. People who know the history of the labor movement have an understanding of how people are treated when they are alone.

Yup, People who give and give over the years with nothing in return can develop resentment and hatred. Hatred always comes to no good end though.
But when companies ask their employees to sacrifice for the mean time , and then don't compensate them later, it's so easy for a company to make up this excuse or that excuse to screw the worker because there is noway to prove the company is telling the truth.

The company is all powerful because they have your livelihood in the palm of their hand. So they can be manipulative.
