Of course those things are not "okay" at all. However, if you look at the charges, those people have been in jail for a very long time for seemingly (by today's comparison) minor crimes. C'mon, 17 years in jail for stealing mail, or a stolen vehicle. I have never been in agreement with the sentencing for drug offenders...the "do it and rot for the rest of your life idea just does not set well with me." We all make mistakes. Some more than others. I think the length of time these people spent in jail is enough. I give our President kudos (excuse me, a little vomit just came up) for doing something good to actually help some people who were essentially left for dead in our failing prison syste...

A slight perusal of the laws by which the measures of vindictive and coercive justice are established will discover so many disproportions between crimes and punishments, such capricious distinctions of guilt, and such confusion of remissness and severity as can scarcely be believed to have been produced by public wisdom, sincerely and calmly studious of public happiness.

Well, both of you got it all wrong. These people are felons and no matter how we feel about the severity of their sentences, to have their records wiped clean is the point. Example: If someone committed a crime that indirectly killed someone (such as drug dealers), do you tell them to go and sin no more, your record is clean and you can live anywhere, do anything (including owning a firearm) and associate with whom ever you please? What kind of deterrent is that? What does that say to our kids? Think this thing through before you start playing armchair judge and jury.
