Popped because the urgency is well founded.

However, while nuclear might address global warming issues, it is a horrible investment in terms of calories in vs. calories out...bad enough to compete with industrial agriculture...high production does not equal high efficiency, as I'm sure you're aware.

I believe poor energy solutions can only lead to further exploitation fossil resources.

Nobody does it better than Heinberg: [url=http://books.google.com/books?id=necqmudixhcC&pg=PA147&lpg=PA147&dq=heinberg+nuclear&source=web&ots=lJ1sYWKgBC&sig=H8PYD0q2S-J85GJGBmIw39ufCK8]http://books.google.com/books?id=necqmudixhcC&pg=PA147&lpg=PA147&dq=heinberg+nuclear&source=web&ots=lJ1sYWKgBC&sig=H8PYD...

I've recently come across a Dutch professor that studies energy and climate change policies, Johan Albrecht. He puts forth the idea that adaptation is better than mitigation; Kyoto countries use less fossil fuels which is nice, yet it only cheapens it for the world market (and thus used even more by developing countries). Instead we should be stimulating economic development to encourage innovations by entrepreneurs.

Here's a slideshow (with audio) of a recent presentation of his:
