Five (5!) cops face discipline. Each should be certified as a moron.

Wow! Not one of those cops thought that maybe this was inappropriate or disrespectful? Sure okay the guy failed to surrender but they could have waited a bit or at least could have approached him and said discretely "Hey you need to come with us"

Tasers ought to be outlawed. The cops are addicted to them.

YES! Because they are supposedly "non-lethal" the cops seem to use them them whenever the mood strikes them and they ARE lethal in many cases.

What's funny about Tasers is that the company provides training on the devices that clearly spells out the lethality involved.

I've taken the training, though it was a few years back, and seen the manuals for the products. Clear direction is given at multiple points that the Taser is only to be considered "less than lethal" the first time it's fired at a suspect during an encounter. Any use on the same suspect after that before a medical evaluation should be considered lethal force.

Somehow, cops recently seem not to be getting that point.

Disgusting performance by those who are supposed to serve and protect. Whoever was at the top of the chain of command that issued the orders of the arrest should be prosecuted for stupidity and compound ignorance. Not all cops but a lot of cops are out of control with taser and the power of their authority and position in law enforcement. There is no excuse for people in that position using poor judgement like that.

Wow! none of this seems surprising to me. The cops in Wilmington Nc are really that way, ignorant. The fact that he was at his fathers funeral meant nothing to them. When they need to be on their jobs they're not. This was a case of poor judgement and they should be punished because I'm quite sure they were not ordered to taser him, at his fathers funeral at that. Wilmington cops need to be on the job at the right time and that wasn't the right time. Just my opinion
