I am not sure, but it seems when a community has officers on foot, bikes, and horseback there seems to be a nicer atmosphere. To personally relate to your local law enforcement gives one trust on both sides.

Around here they have been restricted by budgets and lack of numbers, so we don't see them on the road. You can tell when one is about, the traffic is obeying rules. See them on foot more often, especially round lunch time. But I think it makes you feel safer - if they are game to walk the beat, it must be ok. They probably enjoy a bit of fresh air and a break from the paperwork.

We have two places here in town where the police officers always eat lunch. I make a habit of eating there! :~)

If you see police, union construction workers, and cheap lawyers eating at a local establishment, one can bet the food is good, atmosphere is rowdy, but clean. The fireman usually cook for themselves, you would not believe how us coalminers come up with wild ways to cook 800 feet down and 6 to 8 miles back in the earth, some great meals though.

Jatfla,
cabanaben and I are such heat packers it's not even funny, but we are TOTALLY legal with permits to carry concealed. What a class that was for me, the instructor had a issue with women and I had to qualify twice as good as the men to get my permit and cabanaben and one of his friends were about ready to strangle our instructor (he even used me as a role model during class)

I have to say I have mixed feelings about being a gun-toting liberal *LOL* One the one hand, I have grown up in a state that has a tradition of hunting, and cabanaben has grown up with guns his whole life. I have a healthy respect for guns and for the law. On the other hand, (and I have spoken about this ...

Well, a "gun-toting liberal" seems like an oxymoron! :~) But I believe you are wise. There is evil in this world and we should be prepared to face it. There is a verse where Jesus says to the disciples to "beat their plowshares into swords". And another "A strong man armed keeps his goods in peace". We can argue til the cows come home about turn-the-other-cheek and if a man asked for your cloak...etc. I'll not lay down and let someone hurt me or mine, period.

And while there may be *bad cops* I always believe that they are for our protection and have taught my children to obey and respect those in authority over them. I believe that contributes to a peaceful society. I hope they ha...

Ha, ha! All is always not like it seems, I suppose. And I always like to say that people tend to hate cops and lawyers until they need one. But then, my brother is a lawyer and he loves for me to send him the lastest lawyer joke.
