dulios says:
The Wright affair has such resonance in this campaign because Wright has shown himself to be the kind of black person that white people don't like. He brings out our prejudices. Yes, I said "our" prejudices.

Part of it is Wright's ignorance and part of it is his arrogance and part of it is that he talks louder than white people would prefer and part of it is that he uses the sing-song cadence they associate with other black ministers they have grown to hate over the years such as Jesse Jackson.

Obama is none of those things (OK, maybe a little arrogant at times), so Wright has been brought to the forefront as a substitute punching bag.

I've seen this happen so many times in politics where black candidates are involved that I've lost track. An opponent has trouble attacking the black candidate, so they find somebody connected to the candidate and attack them. I can't say why this is more prevalent with black politicians unless it's that the black experience has produced more fringe players who can be used for this purpose. Plus, there's always Farrakhan.

Then the opponent starts in with the disavowal game. Will you now disavow this black person who is of some stature in the black community to prove to us that you really aren't one of "those" black people?

And now that Obama has provided the disavowal, left with no choice ...

I was thinking the other day how I'm glad that I'm not judged by the company I've been around in the past.

Granted, I'm not running for the presidency....I've had some "friends" in the past who played it real smooth for a long time...then.....

Dulios, obviously you need to learn the definition of the word prejudice.
We've never heard Obama say any of the things that got Wright in trouble because Obama doesn't believe those things.
If I found out an acquaintance of mine was in the KKK, then I would not need to hear him spout racist hatred to know that he was a racist.

This is a gut check time for white America, and don't give me the
"double standard" baloney. If we could ever clean up the white racism,
the thing that some of you consider black racism would take care of
itself.
This, again, shows racism and hatred of the commenter. Racism IS NOT a white problem. It IS NOT an American problem. Rac...

Racism requires institutional backing. Wright is prejudiced or bigoted, but without any structural power, it cannot systemically harm whites.

Racism requires institutional backing.
I agree. Affirmitive Action IS racist. But that certainly does not mean that YOU cannot be.

it cannot systemically harm whites.
And, by the way, this is more racism. I do not care about harming whites. I care about harming America. Racism harms America. Your hatred harms America. Your bitterness toward Christians harms America. Your support for a racist preacher that is a "spiritual advisor" to a black-power fascist harms America. Your hatred for those that have worked to achieve wealth hurts America. Your ingratitude hurts America. Your whining hurts America. Grow up!

Why am I not amazed?

We just witnessed willhelm whining about being made the object of a clip (on an egoldsteing clip) and here he goes on a rant against the clipper.

Correction.. About an ignorant clipper's comments in toto.

Also, I do not mind being made the subject of a clip. I mind the petty personal assaults. But you will see what you want since you are, in effect, intellectually blind.

What scares me about Obama is the great amount of time and effort he spent building up his connection to Wright in the past. I think that it surved him well when running for a local office and he needed to carry a large number of black voters. Now his actions on the past have come back to to bite him in the rear.

So I ask you; did he praise Wright in the past just to get balck voters on his side or does he believe what Wright stands for? Eather way I then have to ask-was he lying then or now, and do I want to support a man who will say ANYTHING to get elected?

There is no doubt that Trinity Church was a power broker and connecting point in his community. Many politicians big the biggest churches in their areas for that purpose.

John McCain can't make up his mind whether he is an Episcopalian or a Baptist, he has corrected reporters several times each way. He joined a Baptist Mega-Church in Arizona even though he was raised as an Episcopalian. But interestingly if he is a Baptist now, he is an unbaptized Baptist. Says he doesn't need it.

So does John McCain just use the church as a prop for his political purposes?

Willhelm,
I'm sorry you got your panties all in a bunch about "my" comments, racism, and ignorance. Perhaps you missed the quotation marks. The words are not mine, but those of Chicago Sun-Times writer Mark Brown. Click on the link if you like and take it up with him.

I don't give a crap what anyone says, questioning a man about his radical beliefs is not racist no matter what color he is. And anyone who is playing the race card knows they have a losing argument and are just trying to use their tried and true trump card. But it won't work this time.

Disregarding Wright for a second, what dulios has said is still accurate. People are trying to play the association game with Ayers just because Obama served on the Board of a philanthropic organization with Ayers. That's quite a stretch.

I don't give a crap what anyone says, questioning a man about his radical beliefs is not racist no matter what color he is.
However, it is racist to attempt to stigmatize the questioning as racist, which is what the clipper, the article writer, and practically everyone on the hard-left is attempting to do.

When Democrats get defensive they pull the race card and act racist.
When Republicans get defensive they pull the patriotism card and act unpatriotic.

This is all showing a very ugly side to Democrats.
