There are different KINDS of humour and I do not think it is only used to prove one is superior or inferior but also to show that someone is friendly, or offering friendship and other tactics too apart from social bargaining.

cynicism is called a bad humor. It try to turn the moral upside down. But if the moral itself is turned, it may turn things right!
If political jokes get cynic, it's a true sign for an untrue system, a moral, that's lost morality! And that's ofcourse not immoral!
