For years, liberal Christians and others have made protection of the enviroment a moral committment. Now a number of conservative evangelicals are joining the fight, arguing that man's stewardship of the planet is a biblical imperative, and calling for action to stop global warming. But they are being met head on by opposition from their traditional evangelical brethren who adamantly support the Bush administration in downplaying the threat of global warming and other environmental perils. This story -- about evangelicals and the environment -- is an important one, if not all that new (1, 2, many others). Richard Cizik, VP for governmental affairs of the National Association of Evangelicals (NAE), has been a key figure on this. APM's Krista Tippet (Speaking of Faith) did an in-depth interview with him which spent a lot of time on this very issue. "...downplaying the threat of global warming and other environmental perils" Typical of Moyer's cleverly subtle style of dishonesty. There is a big difference between "downplaying" something that you take as fact, and not believing something to be factual. |
