The Greeks recognized time as both linear & non-linear in nature & defined it "kronos" & "kairos". Here's a poem that speaks about this.

Where did we hear about this last time...? Ah! Freud. So the unconscious (=unconscious thoughts) is not Freud's unscientific fiction after all, because there are pictures to prove it...
