Actually, Americans and Mexicans were living peacefully together until the Mexican government changed its laws to outlaw slavery. The Americans (the non-citizens) didn't like this and decided to take the land for themselves instead, in a nutshell.

My Mexican husband says, "my family lives where we always have. The borders just got changed."

Learn YOUR history.

It does not matter that the borders changed. There WAS as war in the 1840's which is a non-disputable historical FACT! We won the Mexican-Ameican war which was delcared by Pres Polk. Mexico signed the On February 2, 1848, The Treaty of Guadeloupe Hidalgo was signed, later to be ratified by both the U.S. and Mexican Congresses. The treaty called for the annexation of the northern portions of Mexico to the United States. Again we WON! To Bad live with it.

The point being, there is an implication that the Mexican people are the interlopers, rather than the other way around, regardless of who won a conflict. We Americans tend to be elitist in that regard when it comes to history.

American's being elitist when it comes to history, I will agree with on some aspects, but only in the past, with regards to Manifest Destiny (coined in the 1840's by Jackson Democrats, but later applied to US early expansion into the west and killing Native Americans.) We had a romantic view of the past west, but we all know the truth. However when someone out right does not know specific and certain aspects of basic American history, I have a HUGE problem with that. Yes I will concede it WAS Mexican land before the Mexican-US War in the 1840's but it changed, and changed forever, with the treaty signing. I realize and understand the aspect of how the US and Mexico got into war, with reg...

Outlaw slavery! Why, those darn Mexicans...

Wait, now we agree with them. Oh well, the interlopers stole their land and that's the end of it. If that was good enough for the Injuns, then it should be good enough for the Mexicans. And anyone else whose land we want.
"I don't feel we did wrong in taking this great country away from them, if that's what you're asking. Our so-called stealing of this country from them was just a matter of survival. There were great numbers of people who needed new land, and the Indians were selfishly trying to keep it for themselves." -- John Wayne, "Playboy" i/v 1971

Joaaron is absolutely correct. Wars happen, borders change and governments change. The Mexican government signed a treaty that gave us the land, meaning it is no longer their land or their citizens land regardless if they inhabited the land in the past.

Further, Genetics have indicated that all people orginated from Africa, making it my homeland and everyone elses. That fact does not mean I get to illegally move me and my family to some country in Africa, violate their immigration laws, and tell them that this is my homeland and I can stay your laws be damned.

If the USA is so bad a place then why do people want to be here so badly?
