That is one of the reasons the UK abolished the death penalty when I was a child.

Canada abolished the death penalty after having hanged Wilbert Coffin (in 1956) on mere circumstantial evidence.

What a terrible tragedy.

It is for exactly this kind of miscarriage of the capital punishment system, that Gov. George Ryan commuted the sentences of every inmate on Illinois' Death Row before he left office.
