In the great crash of the 1920s, the image was of financiers and bankers jumping out of their office windows. This time around, I expect more than a few of them to get pushed by large, angry, broke crowds. Without regulations and laws against this kind of behaviour, maybe no laws were broken. It could be it was all done legally, as morally reprehensible as that may be. I doubt any fat cats will be made to pay for their greed capitalist ventures. It seems Wall Street is a lawless free-for-all take-what-you-want kind of place. Not only that, but what they did with mortgages derivatives, they are now doing with life insurances. Nothing has changed. |
