That's pretty depressing. Choosing to be a recluse meant he didn't really help anyone else with the knowledge he acquired, and the jeers from society at large, including the press, likely only made him more of a loner.

His life is really something. I have half a mind to somehow get ahold of his works, drop my university education on its ass, and start studying them instead.

It is more interesting that everyone
assumes a genius must contribute to society. Does that intelligence
give them any more responsibility than we have? Or, to put it another
way, does our lack of intelligence give us less responsibility to
contribute to society?
