I am the woman who was cursed by others because I dared hold another woman's hand when I thought we were alone.
If you believe this is wrong as I do, then let's all do our parts to speak out and end it.

I'm totally with you, Debbyski, but I start the battle with patience. My mother was kicked out of her house and dis-owned because she became pregnant with my oldest sister out of wedlock. In California. Not even fifty years ago.
What's the verdict? Is the age of lightning-fast communication and information sharing helping us to learn our lessons as a society faster?

I think our society is becoming more tolerant of people who are different Robjustin, and I think you have a good point about learning lessons in our new age of communication because people are able to tell their stories. Long gone are the days of living in the closet, (at least online) and I'm really impressed with how far our society has come regarding same-sex attractions. We have a long way to go yet, and it's exciting to see it all unfold, and be a small voice for civil rights.

I really am one of the lucky ones... the only bit of homophobia I've encountered in my life is from a homeless drunk who called my man and I girls as we walked hand in hand. That's it.

You're right masbury, debby's clips are always good and to the point. It's always hard to add anything because she says it all so well.

Good'un, Deb!
You know, homophobia is everywhere, still. It's how we choose not to allow it to stop us from embracing ourselves, our gender identity and our love that is really changing. There is still plenty out there to be afraid of, if we chose to allow fear to rule us.
Tam and I were crossing a parking lot not too long ago holding hands and a jeep full of drunken yahoos drove by and yelled out "fucking faggots". Tam was quick on the draw and hollered back "That's lesbians, you fucking idiots". We laughed at that one.
Also there is a big difference between tolerance and true acceptance. The difference is clearly illustrated in our small town. We are "apparently" accepted by most. W...

Good comment; but I would expect no less from you Thorne.

We are known as "The Ladies" (How quaint, eh?) Unless we piss someone off; then we become "Those Dykes".
That is such a truth in our society and I often wonder why. Those words such as the N word and faggot and dyke and lesbo all come flying out of small minds and mouths to somehow objectify and dehumanize the other person in an attempt to win power and control over them. Sadly, I think that has always been and will always be human nature and the flip side to that is it shows others how wrong that behavior is and eventually forces change.
