# In March 2003, Al Jazeera was awarded by Index on Censorship for its "courage in circumventing censorship and contributing to the free exchange of information in the Arab world."[63] # In April 2004, Webby Awards nominated Al Jazeera as one of the five best news Web sites, along with BBC News, National Geographic, RocketNews and The Smoking Gun. According to Tifanny Schlain, the founder of the Webby Awards, this caused a controversy as [other media organisations] "felt it was a risk-taking site".[64] Ed Lasky: "We know how Moran (D-VA) feels about the Jewish community and Israel. Moran places a great deal of responsibility for the Iraq War on the American Jewish leadership and influential individual Jews and has begun blaming the same group for war drums beating regarding Iran." "Moran has been criticized by his fellow Congressmen (both Republican and Democrats) and is considered somewhat of an embarrassment by his colleagues-which apparently does not prevent Cohen from relying upon his views to advance his cause - Free Al Jazeera! " In April 1996, the BBC World Service's Saudi-co-owned Arabic language TV station, faced with censorship demands by the Saudi Arabian government, shut down after two years of operation. Many former BBC World Service staff members joined Al Jazeera, which at the time was not yet on air. The channel began broadcasting in late 1996.[3 Above from Wiki. If you are unsure about it, check out its webpage news service and make up your own mind. If you are unsure about it, check out its webpage newsSo?!? Is that a mark of credibility to someone? Maybe alJazeera could recieve casual recognition for not being highly censored or 100% biased but that's it. They've achieved a level to where fringe left-wingers of "the West" can see them as balanced. I recognize that. Again: So?!? That's hardly a measure of great journalism.Or fair and balanced. No more than the Nobel Peace Prize goes to great men! I think reasonable people demand that there be, along with unbiased reporting of FACTS, the slightest tendencies to 'word' things in such a way that knows the world will ultimately depend upon hope, freedom, sanity,as opposed... al Jazeera is worthy to consult in order to peer into just what is today's "free exchange of ideas" in the Arab world. As a study in itself as opposed to a trusted information source. But then, so should they all. Measure your spoon of salt accordingly. And to observe what message is being sent to it's readers. I keep a link to it for that reason. The problem is that too many will be likely to take it's subtle- or not so subtle -leanings as the straight poop. Just as people do the larger news agencies.Which are bad enough. Why introduce the creeping incremental-ism that results when too many are exposed to information sources they don't know how to properly vet in their own minds? |
