masbury says:
Insisting that the Founders wrote "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance (those words date to 1954). Ignorance and zeal are a dangerous combination.

She's just amazing, huh? Or should I say, "Duh?"

One would hope that the potential second in line to the most powerful position in the free world would have a basic rudimentary grasp of American history.

The combination of a distorted view of American history - making it more "God" -oriented than it really was - with her religious right views makes for a creepy combination. These people think they are re-capturing the true America, which gives them a passionate crusaders' spirit - when they're merely forcing something upon us that has never been. It is damaging both to America and to religion - even their religion!

a great way to get new voters is to insult them by telling them they're stupid for believing something that is untrue. ........

I wonder if she has enough good sense to feel embarrassment over her version of history.

I can't wait to see what other distortions she will spew forth concerning the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

Many of the "Founding Fathers" had adulterous affairs, Sarah. If it was good enough for them is it good enough for you?

Did you get your John Edwards retort mixed up with your Palin?

dl211: topic is Sarah Palin's misunderstanding of history. Off-topic slams are not welcome. I'm sure we're in agreement about the reprehensible nature of John Edwards' actions, but reaching for any dig you can think of, rather than making a reasonable disagreement with the point of a post, cheapens ClipMarks. Please don't do it.

I posted a capsule histor of the pledge at this clip, so I won't repeat it here, other than to say that the current version is the fifth rewording of the Pledge, it was written by a socialist and also was originally accompanied by a gesture that was discontinued in 1942 because it looked like the Nazi salute.

Jorjor, you're on a roll today. That's a perfect pin-prick to the balloon of patriotic revisionism.

masbury - get down off your high horse.

I simply replied to a remark within a comment. I'm sure if I check you've done that probably a thousand times. My reply was related to that comment...but carry on with your little slam dunk of Palin.

Sarah Palin is looking more and more like a vote winner as many will identify with her. She is ignorant, likes guns,
has fundamentalist moral values, champions big oil, finds killing animals a sport, and stands for a mindset which eschews experience or expertise for looking pretty. As a representative of the people she can claim to be representative of many of them.

I wonder if, like McCain, she is of the impression that Vladimir Putin is "president" of Germany.
