If you couldn't get a satisfying mail account at Yahoo Mail, Hotmail or Gmail, you can now get it at live.com. Although it's not yet official, it's quite easy to get a mail address like your.name@live.com
Better hurry, if you want a short address

Nice tip! What a clean-looking email address, great domain too. Turns out the name of my blog is "Torley Lives" so this fits snugly.

THANK YOU!

I've been using this since around spring, I believe
.
By that time I had even stopped using hotmail as a throwaway address for signups and etc. and was just signing in once a month just to keep it alive for whatever purpose might arise. Then somewhere, somehow, I can't remember, I got an invite or a secret link or something, tried it, and was somewhat impressed with the changes.

But at that time it wouldn't work in The Fox and had some major issues. But, a couple of months ago, things changed-- and now I can tell you that they have truly come a long way from hotmail. Very nice. And in The Fox, with AdBlock, very clean. Definitely worth checking.

hmm...I opted out of live mail after trying it a few weeks ago...the white background is too harsh on the eyes in a dim lit environment, and I never really liked preview/reading panes.

Also, I don't know if this has changed, but the lack of an ability to do a text search on the content of all your mails put me off.

I think they caught this problem already and now you cannot create more accounts at live.com.

I hated their ads, but now as GD said above, with ADP in Firefox, the site seems to be flying like Google mail.

I just downloaded it and have added my other two accounts. Looks great to me. If it will do nothing else (and I haven't tried it yet) but allow me to insert my picture/image in the e-mail itself, I will keep it forever!!!

What did you download, Jatfla?

LP, you can now tweak the look, so if you don't like the white, you can change it.

The Windows Live Mail... I like it cause I can have all my accounts in one place and I like the lay-out. Silly me, I thought I could add pictures and images directly into the e-mail from web pages or my Flickr account; but apparently only from My Pictures. I'm not very computer literate so I'm still messin' with it.

I saw how to change the account colors, but can you change the background color also? Or am I talking about something different from you guys? (you and lonely planet)

jatfla, this is regarding the Web Version

Try something like Thunderbird, it has an extension to download email from Hotmail (or Live or whatever). Ask Godfrey, he should know.

Thunderbird would be the best way to include photos in your email if you want maximum control of their placement and especially for local photos. But using WinLiveMail you can simply drag and drop images into your composition area. This works with many email services, such as GMail, as well.

Flock has a very nice feature that makes this easy with your Flickr or PhotoBucket account. Your images appear in a scrollable bar just above your open web page, and you can just drag and drop from there. If you don't want to use Flock, open Flickr, or any image source in your sidebar, and from there drag them to your email.

I know this isn't a tech site so I'm not going to ask all the questions I'd like to, but I had Thunderbird and had a terrible time with images in the body of the email. And I had Flock also (and liked it) but didn't see that option. Drop and Drag into Gmail!!?? I really have a lot to figure out.

Sorry for buttin' in to the wrong discussion.

Drop and Drag into Gmail!!??

Ah, there's your problem. You need to do your dragging before your dropping.

Just kidding. Couldn't resist.

I don't see any problem with your questions. This is a great thing about Clipmarks.

Anyway I'm surprised that you are having trouble with Thunderbird.

If you like we can have a conversation about this on Dai.sy later.

In the meantime, just try opening Flickr in your sidebar, open your email compose window and just try the drag and drop thing. It's really very easy.

You stinker!

OK....there's my problem. Don't have my photo-site open in a side-bar. Man....is the internet cool??!!

They have since offered these for everyone without a hack. Though hotmail sucks due to it's advertisements in your inbox, otherwise it is fine and quick.
