It's almost like they need a higher power to grant them permission to be evil. Also Kelika, by allowing these incursions of superstition into our schools, we run the danger for future harm to ourselves and the planet. Already we're behind in stopping global warming. We're behind in stem cell research. Over half of the people in this country have no idea what a scientific theory really is. All because of religion. I feel it's time to regain the forefront in the advancement of knowledge and refuse to let Bronze Age folklore to dictate policy in the 21st Century. At least one scholar of the history of technology (Jean Gimpel) holds that the US gave up its superiority in science and tech when it bowed out of the race to put an SST in the air. Since then, we have fallen behind in other areas. Countries like South Korea and Finland have surpassed us in internet and cell phone penetration, the US auto industry is a shambles, and our public transportation infrastructure is pitiful. Now we have a political administration that has pushed us so close to national bankruptcy that it'll be years before we can start catching back up with the rest of the world. |
