I kind of see this as a similar problem to the one mentioned in this NY Times article:

Computers, for instance, can be manufactured to use less power, but with most users oblivious to energy efficiency when they are shopping for a computer, manufacturers perceive no competitive edge in spending the extra money on efficiency."

Hopefully at some point in the very near future power consumption becomes as important a market force as is horsepower and speed (e.g., machines built with Via processors over Intel and AMD, at least for the home computing market).

I think this article is great but why are these business so crazy about wasting but not conserving!!!! In all we have one world and to many people and not enough resources does anyone care??? Business need to reform goodness!!!
