Indeed, what goes on in the social sciences would make for a fascinating sociological study." I have long held the view that social sciences are profound bullhockey, if I may use a technical term. If you research the foundations of these "disciplines" you will find that they are all based in a materialist foundation and seek to confirm that foundation through the masterful manipulation of descriptive and inferential statistics. It is time we recognize that sociology and much of the psycho-pop babble we are subjected to is nothing more than materialist propaganda. I believe that there is, these days, a general theoretical consensus above the archaic arbitrary boundaries of hypostasised concepts such as 'science' that the ontology of such concepts does not represent a metaphysical entity but simply, all too humanly, points of agreement among communities (e.g. of scientists, social scientists) on usage of terms within said communities. You could see this in nascent form with Kuhn and Wittgenstein, but interestingly most clearly in the sociology of knowledge over the past 50 years or so, including, of course, the social and ideological aspects of sociology itself. The positivist strand of all human sciences still has its, usually mundane uses, but I thin... You do realize that the world is flat and if you sail your ship too far you will fall off the edge don't you? |
