I guess it was dumb of me to think that everyone would respond to Obama's speech on a human level. I don't hate all republicans, or think they are stupid (they may think I am, and I'm sure most of them could make a fool out of me if I were to challenge an issue), but it seems like there's some dehumanizing of a legitimate candidate (I say legitimate, others would scoff at that). I thought his speech was really good. Well that's all alanocu is going to say on this matter. I'm not leaving this comment to challenge anyone or pick a fight. I'll always have an open mind to other views. In fact, I appreciate the different views. The big picture is always a better perspective IMO. Peace. I'm not a big Obama supporter because of his stance on the military, but what i saw in him during that last speech was impressive--he was riht on about race in this country and has a unique viewpoint because of his lineage and upbringing. At least he is very honest and forthcoming. I like the title of this clip therefore I popped it. I will never understand Republicans and Democrats; I have read articles that differentiate between the two but still I have no clue. Can I get some facts straight…? Are there only two parties that run for presidency? Once a democrat always a democrat and vice versa? Does this mean when you are a Republican or Democrat that you have made up your mind on a topic before you have heard what the topic is about? Yes... Yes... Probably... These days...yup! Brimstone, honey, are you for real??? *LOL* I'll assume you are. 1. No. Ross Perot ran for President in 1992 as an independent candidate. He received 19 percent of the vote--one of the largest percentages ever for an independent candidate. He ran again in 1996 on the reform party ticket. Ralph Nader ran on the green party ticket in 2000 and it's been hotly debated that was a factor in putting George Bush in the White House. 2. No matter where you are located in the union, you can register to vote or change your party affiliation at any time. 3. hahahahaha, Rat is correct, maybe. I'm afraid you are losing your credibility with this clip debbyski. Now I don't know if you are gullible or have prevaricated? I'm afraid you are losing your credibility with this clip debbyski.Well, I most certainly hope not Yance! How so Yance? All I can make of 'prevaricated' is that Yance is saying Debs 'beats around the bush' - Damn I wish I were smart enough to come up with a word like that. Debs 'beats around the bush'I have been known to do that a time or two Alanocu Gee, with all the happy bush beating, we can be glad I made my comment, I like debby which accounts for my own bush beating when I used the word prevaricating. As to why I made the comment... Debby said she is for Hillary. The selection of the article in the clip would hint otherwise. And the article is dishonest, Dishonest? How so? Are these people not part of the Republican base? What the article says is dishonest. It says certain things were said and then concludes dishonestly that the things said by Falwell, and Robertson are similar to Wright's remarks and have similar meanings as per anti-Americanism, and fails to consider the huge difference between someone who goes to a church for 20 years and calls the Pastor a mentor and the normal political posturing that candidates MUST do if they are ever to get elected. Finally it egregiously ignores the simple fact that Republicans do NOT get a free pass on Falwell and Robertson. It says certain things were said and then concludes dishonestly that the things said by Falwell, and Robertson are similar to Wright's remarks and have similar meanings as per anti-Americanism,Your right. Fallwell and Robertson are worse. and fails to consider the huge difference between someone who goes to aSo one must ignore the hypocracy of a politcian that claims to ride the straight talk express and once called men such as Reobertson and Farrakahn the agents of intolerance (and rightly so) but attack the honesty of... Falwell and Robertson are not in any way shape or form, anti-American and it is this dishonesty that pretends Wright's obvious anti-Americanism is equal to their non anti-Americanism. I didn't say one must embrace racist etc. ideas but one must embrace powerful religious figures so long as that hug does not cost more than it's worth. If you want a system where you let 'everybody' vote, then you are going to have shotgun weddings. Just a numbers game and reality, not an conspiracy by anyone or any party. And you didn't address the fact that we are talking about a mentor, not just some religious nut job one eats breakfast with so one can get some extra votes! By the way being anti-American is not of itself some crime or sin. There are degrees of being anti-American and I am pretty anti-American myself in respect to the fact that I hate many of our policies. But I'm not saying God Damn America in the curse word connotation and I'm not running for President. What makes Wright comments anti-American while Robertson's are not? As for mentors, my parents have said pretty outrageous things, yet they are my mentors. I don't share their views and will correct them when I can, but I won't disown them. And I was not invoking any conspiracy, but you don't get the best leaders who are willing to do anything and everything just for political expediency. Do you honestly have any doubts that Falwell and Robertson are or were not 100% pro American? It is one thing to correct a wrong your child that you love is doing. It's another to say to your child, "God Damn you child". I hope you will agree. A parent is not a mentor. You can misuse the language all day long but the word mentor is not a parent as is obvious from the fact that blood is thicker than water will never become mentorship is thicker than water. And it is simply dishonest to try and pretend the concept of mentor, especially in the modern age, has anything to do with hanging out with people whose views on serious issues you violently disagree with. I don't think they are pro-American, in any percentage. Don't confuse their nativism and jingoism for sincerity or true support for their country. And I don't think the disagreement has to be, shall we say, violent. Mentors come and go. I think it was imprudent of him to say "God Damm America!". That is a slap on the face on all Americans, at the very least a poor choice of words. But on balance what he said was true, truer than anything that has come out of the mouths of people like Robertson, Hagee or their ilk. Well Than-You ratifar. You have announced that your judgment of what is pro American is direct revelation from God I take it. Because I don't think you'll find many Americans agreeing with you. You see you ignore what the term means. It does not mean that someone is anti-American just because they have different ideas on what will be best for the country and differing plans for how best to strengthen the country. If your idea of what the word means was correct, which appears to be that one must be politically correct as judged by you, then the Prophets of the Old Testament hated Israel, because they did the same thing as Falwell and Robertson except that the two of them have done many mo... You have announced that your judgment of what is pro American is direct revelation from God I take it.HA! Wait...HAHAHAHA!!! (gasp!) HA!...(cough...cough...cough)... Ok, I got that out of my system.... No one can be that arrogant, except Robertson, who claims to have a direct 1-800 line to the Almighty. I would presume such a privilege. Sounds like, oh I don't know...blasphemy...God and I are tight, but c'mon! Because I don't think you'll find many Americans agreeing with you.I imagine not, but then again, it depends who you ask. The people who wrote the article above are Americans, and they seem to agree with me. You see you ignore what the term ... Well now Yance, Now that I've finished my spring cleaning for today and installed a brand new range hood (stainless steel and quiet I might add) lemme put my I'm a hell of a woman's two cent's worth in if I may. I clipped this because I thought after years of the religious right cramming down our throats nonsense like this: Homosexuals want to come into churches and disrupt church service and throw blood all around and try to give people AIDS and spit in the face of ministers.that is was just a tad hyprocritcal to try to stir a fuss over what Wright had to say. That doesn't mean I'm not a Hillary sup... Correction... "I would not..." So you are good at rationalizing ratilfar. And you dug the fu*king body motions Wright made with his pelvis as he described what Bill did to Monica Lewinsky as being what Bill did to Blacks as a whole? Was that part of the profound truth? Did you find his truth of making clear that Jesus was a Black man and that he made it ever so clear that it was Whites that murdered Jesus. Is that some of your wonderful truth? So now we get to the heart of the question. That was not in any of the video clips I seen. I think some African-American would feel that Bill did dick them over. I'm in no position to opine on that particular score. As for Jesus been black, he was semitic, so neither he was black or white, at least not as understood in the U.S. He was killed by the Romans, who where Latins, of Mediterranean/Caucasian persuasion. But then again that is blood libel of sorts, the way Jews have been accused for centuries of murdering Christ. Neither one is correct, and like I said I don't agree with that statement or some others. But that makes him more or less anti-American than the other pastors? If anythi... As far as links, all I did was to go to YouTube and type in either Jeremiah Wright or Reverend Wright and you get lots of choices. I did, saw a few and commented on them. If you have any specific mentions, please share them with us. @debbyski I pretty much believe you and you certainly have a right to support whomever you like. As you can see politics is more than a tad contentious. With Wright there is no issue of hypocrisy involved. Wright is being looked at for things Robertson does not say or do. Yes Robertson has his own flaws and serious ones, but they are not relevant to Wright's flaws which after all are only on stage due to the special relationship he has with a Presidential candidate. If one claims that Wright only acts the way that Robertson acts, then the Obama supporters would have to admit their candidate is the same jerk as they are attacking the Republicans for being. And Wright leads a church Obam... I'm not sure what you are asking ratilfar? Are you saying that the tapes on Youtube are not real? No, but I assume their many out there, are their not? One of them must have what your suggesting, a link to that would be helpful. Do you mean the pelvis motions or the Whites killed a Black Jesus or both. I would have to look for it again but I am sure I can find it if that's what you mean. Well, I see your point Yance, but I was more or less speaking to the hypocrisy that I see in the religious right and also the rise of religious fundamentalism. I will always speak out when I see what I feel is rigidity, domination, and exclusion. Well sorry really, debbyski. Sometimes the same action is seen differently depending upon the timing. Hosting a awards ceremony for Joe when Joe is not running for office will be seen one way but in a completely different way when your husband is running for the same office against your husband. So great guns, go ahead and speak out however you like. Just remember that sometimes it's more fun and sometimes a little more difficult to have fun. As I should know myself as I introduced this whole can of worms of my own theoretical free will. Here's a real life joke. It seems that when Betty Crocker cake mix was introduced to the public, women had a hard time buying it. So the compa... OMG honey, That's why I luv Duncan Hines. It's so moist and very rich And while I do prefer homemade rather than cake mixes, I'll have to admit I don't always have time to make a homemade cake. But this is a name you can trust, eh?? Ah ha, I have been busy busy busy debby. A name you can trust? ummm errrrr I can say that as a none expert the name Duncan Hines sounds sexier than Betty Crocker. I don't honestly know for sure if Betty Crocker still exists. I assume it does. That story I told you is really supposed to be true in case you thought maybe I made it up? It comes from a very interesting BBC series I watched recently and consider very good insight into our present culture and how it came to be the way it is. Aw shucks, I just realized I added one egg to the mix, and you go all hot and... you are incorrigible I'm afraid debby! OH heck yeah, Betty Crocker is alive and well! Check it out. http://www.bettycrocker.com/Products/SuperMoist-Cakes/ I'll tell you what, the cookbooks can't be beat. I bought one on Amazon by a seller for dirt cheap. And I heard that same story about the egg in the mix somewhere but I can't remember where, maybe tv? I am sorry I was being so incorrigible earlier Yance. I installed that new range hood which is stainless and looks so good in my kitchen and OMG! new appliances have the strange effect of turning me on Well I sure did feel stupid when I clicked on your link. Now is that stunning vulgarity or has my mind gone all sick. If it's the latter I do have an excuse. Really. I am trying to find the exact point in the video that the egg story comes from. There is also an even better story from the series that is not just in a video but shows an actual commercial that is really blatant if my brief note of it in passing was accurate. Oh and maybe the video does not completely explain but certainly sheds 'Freudian influenced light" on the new appliance turn on issue. In short, you are a victim debbyski; in your case a pretty willing victim but victim none the less. Yes, I am a victim of Betty crocker cake mix Yance. What link and video are you talking about besides friggin cake mix?? Yance, I've never been a smoker but have you been smoking some of that wacky stuffy? It would explain a lot. Fine then. Forget it. Yance, I was wondering... the video you are referring to, is it the one called "Century of the Self" you mean? That's really good video btw. The "smoking experiment" is about ten minutes into the video. Yes thisnamecan'tbetaken. Thank-You VERY much for your contribution! I was a bit of a jerk yesterday and went into a funk instead of forking over the info. But it is better coming from you! The Betty Crocker and the other 'joke' about car length occur at aprox 20 minutes into the second video over a 5 minute time span. again I really Thank-You thisname!!! Aww, your very welcome. Oh ok!!! Thanks TN! You guys gotta realize I'm just a simple little country gal who likes new appliances, cake mix, and lying out on a hammock on a warm day feeling the sun on my shoulders. My average IQ gives me a headache when I try to go too deep. But I think I've got a good heart (I try). I'm just a simple little country gal who likes new appliancesI can totally relate to that though. I have a thing for powertools myself. Gawd, I am way too turned on by my sweeper TN! It's kinda scary OMG!!!!! Talk about shock and Awe. Well not so much awe as being dumped into a world of first class paranoia. I refer to having just watched all of 'The Trap". I am going to watch it again but it needs a warning label on it I'm afraid. Only strong and secure minds should watch it ! ! ! The trap is for me, not the film, the fact that apparently rational and logical ideas are so compelling and seductive (at least within the confines of this video) that one is trapped into a tunnel vision view of the world that leaves one at a complete loss to even recall the words love and sympathy. In fact I don't recall any such humane words even being uttered until an hour and 15 minutes had elapsed. M... Adam Curtis has a mastery of capturing the paranoid moments of human expression doesn't he?Yes, he does and the background music underscores the cynical nature of game theory too. The movie sure does give one food for thought, eh? About politics and the nature of the freedom we have... or haven't. I need to watch it again too though. IMO, game theory is a little too cynical and relies too much on, that humans will always or mostly make rational choices. Which I don't think they do. People can't be summed up in numbers. The experiment where all 12 of the secretaries at Rand who behaved unselfishly (after 17 minutes, pt 1 already buy their own balance of power set of tools! Ha HaAgreed! Some form of mutual "tools of power" equilibrium is only to be expected, if we are to stay safe from each other. (But I bet my hammer drill is bigger than yours though. *LOL*) Depending on your arsenal, I might feel the need to proliferate my weapons of mass construction though. IMO, game theory is a little too cynical and relies too much on, that humans will always or mostly make rational choices. Which I don't think they do. People can't be summed up in numbers. When you write it down like that in black and white, it seems obvious to me to think of the fact that no one even knows what rational behavior is in many cases and certainly I cannot know what you consider to be rational with any certainty. I do however, know with certainty that others will react differently to the same input depending upon their own personal history and character. So logically it is impossible to do a rational calculus when it's impossible to have the numbers to put into it. no one even knows what rational behavior isYup. Agreed. |
