Scary clip BBear! When even a member of the Homeland Security Committee starts thinking conspiracy, then I really start to worry. How can they deny DeFazio access to the plans, if he has a right to see them? More importantly, why would they want to? What are they hiding? I really don't where all this is heading.

Its heading to the attack of Iran, and the furthering of the war to a point of no return.

Start protest marches all over your country and demand for impeachment !
Times running out !
Push the opposition out of their beds!!
Dissenting is the healthiest part of a Democracy. If you let that nitwit get away with this, the rest of the world will never again trust Americans... You've already allowed him to mar your image too many times...
Show the World there's more than just a handful of thinking minds in your nation...
We're all watching and waiting for you to wake-up and speak-up for yourselves !!!

I hate to step into the lets burn bush effigy party, but has anyone even considered that Peter doesn't have the proper flavor of security clearances to view the document.

Sorry, my little dose of common sense. Secrecy when it comes to [battle] plans has always been tight, it has been this way for thousands of years.

And people expect governments to change in weeks or months. Reality check people. It takes decades if not centuries.

But he was not asking for "battle plans" only for the succession of goverment, under his Constitutional priorities.

Operation of the government is more than just lines of succession if the bastard (and we know who I am talking about) gets shot, blown up, torn in two by horses, drawn and quartered by a mob... I think you get the idea.

Face it, we have one of the largest force of arms in the world (some people out number us in sheer infantry: see china for example). We don't want our troops who are out on a limb to be floundering around in combat zones with no clear "what if" orders. That sort of info is gold to any country (note i did not use the T word). Who seeks to take advantage of domestic complications (read as assassination or another horrible event in which thousands of American civilians die)....

"He isn't in the need to know because he isn't in the line of succession."
BULLSHIT!!! I leave it to the words of Lincoln:

"that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."

Learn about the American government BB. We are a representative democracy. All the flower horse crap in the world that our corrupt leaders (and even Lincoln was corrupt, hell he drove our country to war over federal rights out weighing states rights and sugar coated it to the abolitionists to gain popular support) say is all a ploy to maintain power.

Our government is regimented based off of a constitution in which "we the people" elect people who run our country and those people "appoint" others positions of power.

In our government, "we the people" are an afterthought. There is a rigid line of succession in the event of an emergency to ensure that the executive office is maintained (o...

Huh? Third in line for the 'throne' is the speaker of the house. Maybe I'm interpreting your use of the word 'pool' wrong or something.

Get a clue, folks. DeFazio, as the article CLEARLY states, sits on the Homeland Security Committee. He has EVERY security clearance he needs. There is the little notion in our representative democracy commonly referred to as checks and balances. He, as a member of an oversight committee, is a CHECK, elected by the people to represent them in the balance of power of the government. He has EVERY RIGHT to view any documents he wants regarding homeland security.

Take you little civics lesson someplace where you might learn something, Drone. Yes, there is a rigid line of succession in the Constitution. There also used to be something called habeas corpus. That's gone, and effectively the core of...

Read your constitution. Congress does not exist to provide oversight committees on military defense (or offense for that matter). Oversight committees are a result of the men in congress wanting more power than the constitution affords them.

Now I am not saying oversight committees shouldn't exist, they are a necessary evil. When you have too many damn fingers in the pie... well it turns to mush.

As for being elected... please. A majority of the people in America DON'T VOTE. Mainly due to ignorance. I sure as hell didn't vote for him. He is in the house of representatives he is supposed to forward ideas and drafts of laws that his constituency request. And I am willing to bet his co...

Oregonians called Peter DeFazio's office,
worried there was a conspiracy buried in the classified
portion of a White House plan for operating the government
after a terrorist attack.
When you said that, I stopped taking you seriously, as it shows you didn't actually read the clip...
Well a big how do you do to you to. Believe every thing you read. I am willing to bet implies I don't take the news report at face value!

Lies are easy conceal, the truth is even easier to destroy. Infact I take everything that comes from the mouth of a professional con artist seriously (please note the sarcasm).

Take me seriously or no. The man has not an iota of right to ...

As I ponder ever deeper on the subject, something disturbing comes to light.

If there was a classified portion to the document, THAT wouldn't be stated in the unclassified portion.

But then again... what the hell do I know... spending five years reading confidential and secret (how secret you ask? We will use the policy regarding sexuality in the military as a reference: Don't ask, don't tell) documents, technical manuals, and correspondence. Not once in the unclassified versions has it ever referenced the classified versions.

Kinda weird huh? Some back woods conspiracy (liberal or conservative) nuts scream bloody murder at their rep because they fear the government is hiding something ...

Oooh, that's very official and mysterious-sounding! You must be a very powerful and privileged person to have access to all that don't-ask-don't-tell stuff! I guess I'll just take your word for all of it."Kinda weird" indeed. I don't really understand what you're trying to say, but, anyhow, have a good night.

Don't take my word. Take the word of a certified TLAM (thats tomahawk cruise missiles) and MK 48 (torpedoes that can split super carriers in twain) weapons handler. Or take the word of a man thats slept between the tubes of the Trident III ICBM aboard an Ohio Class SSBN for three months. Or how about someone who could have been fish food because the O2 generator caught fire (yea... electrolysis, high quantities of hydrogen and oxygen go boom). Or even better yet, lets definitely take the word of someone who had to research intricate electrical and computer schematics for launch control systems aboard the Virginia class submarines, someone who worked hand in hand to install one of the deadl...

Be as cynical as you want. Considering my service to this rotting nation, I have a unique vantage point. Some people just don't understand that Bush and VP should burn alive for the things they have done, not this stupid, blown out of proportion news article.

I seriously think this article is nothing more than a half hearted attempt to stir civil disorder.

You want a real reason to Impeach... look at the reconstruction of Iraq. Look who's friends have bungled the job. None other than the VP. You know whats kind of funny, There is no oversight to the office of the VP, how do you think they are getting around so many road blocks. Those are some real reasons, suffering for the all mighty...

Drone, I'll let pass your looking down your nose at my VERY legitimate 4F status as some definition of my somehow being a second-class citizen. Maybe you aren't old enough to know what 4F was. Medically unfit for any military duty.

But if we want to play that game, how many have taken the time to prepare a statement, travel to the state capital and seek out the appropriate committee meeting so as to offer public statement of the need for keeping open records, find that all others offering testimony on the subject are members of a special interest on one side of the issue or the other, only get into the queue within the alloted time as a legitimate commenter by catching the home district ele...

As with any good debate, fair and valid points. As I stated, the comment earlier wasn't a looking down my nose bit. I am truly curious to see how many vets are lurking in this corner of the net.

4F is no shame. At least you had the stones to step up to the plate. You've done a service few are willing to undertake, and that is admirable. Only if more would (in a lot of cases with the little guys, could) have the courage to do what you've done. As for second class citizen, your involved, that makes you more of citizen than the average rights by born.

As for hanging... to good for em.

And ass-hats (I've always loved that word, picked up from some friends of mine from Chicago) are unfortunately running the show.

@enbar, we'll put the 'opportunity' issue aside for a minute, but it is interesting to watch this cause such an uproar... and I think Rioting Drone may very well be right - this guy may not have access to this stuff. This 'for the people' stuff is kids talk. The reality is - there are certain security arrangements in place and they must be honored. Getting back to Berger, the guy used his security to get into this facility, stole some documents, took them out of the building, hid them... these aren't rumors or whatever - these turned out to be facts. The guy was later slapped on the wrist for it and we still haven't seen the original versions of these documents. Where was the people's o...
