For an audio version of his interview on BBC, you can go to Deism.com and look under "Anthony Flew From atheist to Deist" www.deism.com the link I read the article right through. He just appears to be one very confused man torn between his real beliefs and affection for friends who are believers. Don't really get that he knows what the hell he believes anymore, lol. I find the article interesting. Flew aside, it is an indicator of the modern version of the old game of trying to prove God exists, rationally, or trying to prove that God does not exist, rationally. Flew seems to suggest in his mention of a long term interest in the aristotelian god a different tradition wherein reason itself is the manifestation of 'God', and the development of reason in an individual is the basis of morality and contact with the Divine (reason). Personally, I think it's all academic. great propaganda for believers and skeptics alike. Don't really get that he knows what the hell he believes anymore, lol.I think this is a good step for him. Atheists, after all, can become steeped in their own 'institutional' dogmatisms in the same ways as christians and other 'organized religions' (e.g. neoclassical economics). |
