Keep your eye on this issue. See my related clip illustrating the AP's software protection solution.

Bah. The freaking AP wants people to get permission and pay before using five-word quotes from AP stories.

They aren't the ones who get to make the rules. The legislature and the judiciary get to make the rules. "Fair use" is not determined by the copyright holder.

It's important we not let them get away with this.

I agree with you Lexica. "Fair use" is clearly defined and not by any one individual, group or company.

I find this offensive and ridiculous, how can they possibly claim ownwership of something that happened?

Basically they want to limit the scope of independant media and free speech.
The mainstream media is failing fast as more people get their news online these days than any other source, this is a vain attempt to prop up a doomed and outdated format.

They haven't caught on to the fact that Clipmarks directs more people to their sites because it's a form of freeadvertising! Maybe Clipmarks should charge advertising space (joke).
