electronic document management systems -- you'd think that they would be natural 
fits as they generate about 200 pages of paper per bed every day. But adoption 
is stuck at about 5%. The reason given most often is that physicians want their 
paper.<BR><BR>HIPAA may accelerate the move as the whole records management and 
billing systems get looked at more closely and patient record's privacy must be 
monitored.<BR><BR>Clearly the privacy and security rules will affect anybody who 
touches a claim or procedure document. For example, any third party service 
bureau will have to conform, which may mean changing processes. For example if a 
company is using work-at-home labor to key in claim information they will have 
to ensure that each operator's home computer is secure - such as against an 
Internet intrusion which may happen when a member of their family is using the 
computer.
