But I love shy people, they have so much to offer, they are genuine, and they make the best friends if only people would take the time to get to know them. But their loss is my gain

As a recovered shy girl myself(I have recovered years now,but I never forget how it was),I like your attitude towards shy people.I have some shy friends,mostly girls,and I don't particularly like how other people treat them.I especially hate the "are you ok?why don't you say anything?" questions.

People who know me now cannot believe I was PAINFULLY shy growing up. I'll never forget meeting my husbands uncle and his large Italian family and we all sat down to dinner and his Uncle Albert said "Hey beautiful, lemme wipe that gravy off your chin" (I didn't have any on there BTW!) and he reached over with a napkin and wiped my chin! I thought I was literally gonna die of embarrassment while the whole crew of them (my husband, then boyfriend, included) laughed their arses off! But people would be surprised how much shy people will come to life when you talk about a topic of their interest.
I purposefully did something to Mick that you should never do and that is ask if you are shy!!! ...

So I think my ability to empathize is because I've been there and done that. For the most part, if you try to be genuinely nice to all people, they will usually be the same way back
