I don't think biofuels are really part of the "green agenda." I think they're part of the agribusiness agenda. But ... that's just a quibble. But it's being marketed as "green". Yes, true, but most people who actually pay attention to environmental issues are aware that biofuels are not going to come anywhere near solving our problems. For one thing, we can't grow enough corn, and for another thing, we need oil (for the machines) and gas (for the fertilizers) to grow corn. If you take U.S. government corn subsidies out of the equation, RoEI is too low to be worthwhile anyhow. But anyhow, a move to biofuels does nothing about pollution. |
