This is a real indictment of the American bishops since it appears they've forgotten basic honesty and replaced it with an arrogant "It's for their own good, they just can't understand" attitude.

Nothing against their causes, but collecting cash in the collection plate under false pretenses exposes the underlying beneficiaries as unworthy on their face.

Locally, the Church has paid the appeal bond for a convicted child molester who is (note - present tense) a priest. They've found out that it's harder to regain trust than it would have been to do the right thing in the first place.

Yes it is.

@ aces, your comment is not really on topic. There are many of the groups within the Catholic Charities umbrella that do fantastic work.....and none of this money was going to them, seriously--did you even watch the video?

btw: I have seen almost all of what you have reprinted here on Clipmarks already........so, I know I know, you hate the Church, lol

Seeing the video is what made me comment the way I did. If consistently ripping off the poor is good charity work then why bother giving to charity at all?

Why not just give it to the needy directly? Oh, no! That would be socialism. Better to have it trickle down from the wealthy corporations and religious groups (that way they can get the tax benefits of spending publicly earned money).

Yeah, that works just fine. I'm sorry. There's just no honesty in the political or religious right wing. None. Unfortunately our left wing is getting bought by the rich insurance and pharma industries now, too.

But that's really getting off topic.
