Happy New Year. I am probably way off mark, but Job always strikes me as a very funny story, almost written for a Monty Python parody. here is a man who is everything in the eys of the world, who basks in family and good fortune but ends up on a dung heap covered in sores asking 'Why me?". meanwhile, offstage, Satan and God are sharing a chat, the former as a sort of mischief worker. Job's friends torment him with their supercilious nonsense. Finally, the non-monty python bit, if there is a 'moral' tis that God doesn't have favourites, that earthly respectability and success are no markers of blessing but that God may retain his mystery best when seen from the scrapheap of wrapping paper and discarded goodies which sign pur vanity.
