Even if you accept the higher estimates of oil in Alaska opening it up for drilling would only decrease our foreign dependency by 5% or 6% and that would only last a few decades at best. Taking out enough to make a difference for all the gasoline used in America would empty those oil fields in a matter of years, even months if you are looking at trying 100% non foreign oil.

The only solution is to just get off of fossil fuels. Imagine what wonders could be done if we were spending a trillion on setting America up for alternate energy instead of a useless war to enrich oil companies. Increase our power plant production using wind, solar, water, and nuclear energy to strengthen the power grid...

Invest in finding the technology or ingenuity of converting current cars into non gasoline cars instead of raping more land, destroying more wildlife, extending our dependency on foreign oil, and continuing polluting with fossil energy.
