God is not a Republican (or a Democrat by the way) I don't believe Republicans have any monopoly on moral values, and I don't believe what religious conservatives preach about the Bible, ignoring the most important teachings of Jesus, which place love and compassion above greed and intolerance. And I know for sure it was not God who put George W. Bush in the White House. It was five conservative black robes on the Supreme court. Hi debby, I think author makes the same point, no one has monopoly over God. She's just frustrated over republicans hijacking God for their own party excluding everyone else, and she just wants to make the record straight that Jesus was more like a democrat then a republican, but obviously the republicans will deny any such claims. As far as I'm concerned, the problem isn't just between republicans and democrats, it is the hijacking of God by those who take scriptures literally and those who do not. Literalists are found among all religions of the world and they're soon going to hit the wall with all the advances in science and communication, we just have to wait and be aware. Do we not ... The trouble lies in the human heart! And there's no greater abuse of power than by those perched on religious, and in particular, religious-political platforms (a marriage, it seems, made in hell). I am reminded of, and take comfort in, the fact that on the day of judgment, it is us religious people who will be judged first, and rightly so! But, until then, we will continue to make the mistake of "creating" God in our own image and likeness and manipulating Him to our own ends. To err is human.... |
