masbury says: After union votes to back Obama, company lets NRA on grounds to change their minds. Next door in VA, a flier circulates among coal miners: "Barack Obama Won't Take Away Your Gun, But John McCain Will Take Away Your Union." Bully for them! Proud union member, still have the Winchester my grandfather fought in the Battle of Blair Mountain with against Baldwin- Feltz agents and overbearing coal barons, reminds me of McSame and his brother GW. Wow! That's a treasure! Gives me goose-bumps! Do kids learn about this in school? I sure didn't. Union history has been virtually erased, except for the part about the corrupt bigshots that gradually took over some unions. People just don't know how much we owe unions, and how people died so that workers could leave their children a hope of a life better than they had. I guess corporate America writes the textbooks. Just read the Wikipedia Battle of Blair Mountain entry. What a story! I wonder how many men survived the mines because of the reforms that resulted from those heroes. mas, read about Ludlow, CO; the children, women, and men killed for just wanting not to be slaves to big business. The history of Mother Jones and her boys[ miners] should be an inspiration to all. Every mine law written has been a result of an explosion, fatalities, or serious accidents that was media worthy. |
