Much of what we hear about the so called surge is framed by politicians and the media in a way that does not render the reality of what we (USA) have created in Iraq. The surge in troops, combined with a change in strategy towards the Sunni insurgents has created a fleeting period of relatively low violence. If you consider 2005 levels of violence a positive thing, it would be, I suppose if we were actually headed steadily towards de-escalation of violence and political reconcilation.

These sparring sects know the new fratracidal reality of post Saddam Iraq and unless some miracle happens, we wil see the status quo, providing cover for GWB, devolve whether or not the USA tires of spending money keeping the top on this pressure cooker.
