Today it is from this same part of America, the most overtly religious part, that most of the hostility toward equality in the pursuit of justice for gay and lesbian people comes. The question that should be asked is: What is there about religion in general and Christianity in particular that continues to fuel the prejudices of our day?

The irony is that Jesus himself radically identified with people of other cultures - in fact, it's close to the very core of the incarnation - leaving his own behind and embracing others. And this passion was high on the list of things that got him killed.

Wonder how many churches would have sent out a lynch mob after Jesus when they saw him hanging out with the wrong people?

Smoke TNT, are you talking about masbury or spong? And before I misinterpret, what do you mean by tool?

John Shelby Spong has led a respectable life. I recommend you get more education on this guy.

John Shelby Spong's book 'Sins of Scripture' is an excellent read. In a few words it's how people interpret the Bible to suit their own particular beliefs.

Indeed, tanyamm. Excellent book, as are his others on the subject.
