In this country this is a discrace.

Part of the problem is areas don't grow food to feed the local people anymore. We grow enough food here to feed everyone, but we export it. We then import food at a huge environmental cost. In the US we export 1.1 million tons of potatoes, while we import 1.4 million tons. Who is reaping the benefits here?

True. But we also pay farmers a subsidy to NOT grow crops. That's just wrong and how ever invented that scheme needs to medically evaluated.

Alot of people in the military get paid so little, they qualify for food stamps.

Many Americans have been "brainwashed" into "blaming the victims". A popular ideology is that poor & hungry & homeless Americans are "lazy".
The wealthy propagandize that "in this county - land of plenty" the poor are Living well on "our" tax money.
The Middle class aspire to be wealthy so they buy into this.
This is a simplification of the situation. As Boomers retire, we may see some change.
