寺院と聞くとつい古色蒼然たる色彩を思い浮かべてしまうが、それは時のなせる魔法で、古代よりいつも極彩色につつまれて暮らしていた。むしろわたしたちのほうが、印刷やディスプレイなどで管理された色彩ばかりを眼にしていて、極彩色を知らないのかもしれない。

</p> <P>　実物は往生極楽院で公開されているが、加持祈とうなどの油煙で黒ずみ、図柄は肉眼ではほとんど判別できない状態。
</p> <P>　再現された天井画は、舟の底のような形をした天井部分（縦４・３メートル、横２・９メートル）に、群青色の空を優雅に舞う天女や、４６体の菩薩（ぼさつ）が描かれている。また、往生極楽院の壁に描かれた両界種子曼荼羅（しゅじまんだら）図もよみがえった。
</p> <P>　作成した日本美術院院友の日本画家、馬場良治さん(57)＝東京都＝の説明では、実物から微量の顔料を採取し、判明した当時と同じ原料で忠実に彩色を再現した。
</p> １７日から一般公開される新しい文化財収蔵庫「円融蔵」に常設展示される。
